Pennant Puzzle

  This puzzle was first copyrighted in 1909 in Chicago as ‘Pennant Puzzle’ by Lewis W. Hardy.



The original puzzle has Ned Hanlon and Frank Chance from the Baseball Hall of Fame on the lid and the blocks have team names. The ‘Dad’s Puzzler’ box on the right above is dated 1926 copyrighted by J.W.Hayward, distributed by S-M News Co Inc, 229 Fourth Avenue NY, manufactured by The Standard Trailer Co Cambridge Springs PA, price 10 cents. It later appeared in Martin Gardner’s “Mathematical Games” column in the February 1964 issue of Scientific American under the name of ‘Dad’s Puzzle’.
