Pennant Puzzle


    

History

  This puzzle was first copyrighted in 1909 in Chicago by Lewis W. Hardy.



The puzzle has Ned Hanlon and Frank Chance from the Baseball Hall of Fame on the lid and the blocks have team names. It was patented in 1912 and marketed as ‘Pennant Puzzle’ by the OK Novelty Company in Chicago IL. The ‘Dad’s Puzzler’ box on the right above is dated 1926 copyrighted by J.W.Hayward, distributed by S-M News Co Inc, NY, manufactured by The Standard Trailer Co Cambridge Springs PA, price 10 cents. It later appeared in Martin Gardner’s “Mathematical Games” column in the February 1964 issue of Scientific American under the name of ‘Dad’s Puzzle’.
